Taking the initial steps towards a healthier lifestyle can sometimes be daunting. It can become a mental and emotional battle. Then comes the comparisons to other people's ability to gain/lose weight, wear certain clothes, or even step on stage in a bodybuilding or figure contest. "Only eat clean foods", and "no eating after 6 pm" gets ingrained into our daily existence, and it all becomes a bit of a whirlwind. Then, we slam on our brakes. We become consumed with not being good enough, or not having enough time, or simply not wanting to change our patterns. I have been on both ends of the spectrum. I have competed in shows and followed disastrous diets that restricted me so much that I developed a skewed relationship with food. I have also been completely unmotivated to do anything physical, and sat around eating whatever I could get my hands on because I was tired of being told I couldn't eat certain foods. I lost my motivation to go to the gym. I lost my drive to better myself. I just gave up. In June 2016, I broke my leg and after a two surgeries and having no choice but to hobble around on crutches and/or stay seated in a wheelchair, I was ready to get moving again! Physically, emotionally, and mentally, I was ready to rebuild everything that had be pushed to the wayside over the last few years (not just the months needed for my leg to heal). I needed a fresh start and a new outlook. Shane has taken the time to sit down and talk to me about the science behind food and nutrition, as well as refining a suitable macro profile for my goals. I feel like I have the freedom to eat the foods that I enjoy, while still being mindful of what my body needs. I am getting stronger and leaner, and I am finally falling back in love with the gym. The knowledge, experience, and professionalism Shane has to offer, surpasses everyone else in Cochise County.
